Coathanger Mangling

We recommend using a rotary tool like a Dremel to cut the coathanger. You can use wire cutters instead, but you'll have to file down the ends of the pivot rod if you do.

Straighten the coathanger and cut of a piece long enough to stretch completely across the opening of the speaker cabinet. This is the pivot rod. Set it aside.

Cut off another 6" piece of coathanger for the pushrod. Bend the end into a loop so that it wraps around the voice coil, as shown in the picture. This rod needs to be long enough so that when glued in place, it will stick above the pivot rod by a quarter inch or so. We found it easier to leave this longer than we need, and use the dremel to cut it to length later.

Updated instructions

This will be detailed with V2.0, but for now, we recommend a slight change in the pushrod. Instead of leaving it straight, we suggest placing a z-shaped bend in it, so that it pokes up much closer to the pivot rod (within 1/2").
